The winless Kootenay Ice are winless no more as they eaked out a 5-4 overtime victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs' JV squad. Birthday boy Cody Eakin had one assist on Kootenay's third goal - the first time Kootenay had led in the tournament.Eakin also was undefeated in the dot. He won 100% of his faceoffs. He was on ice for four goals-for and three against. But then, he was on the ice a lot. Kootenay might have had a disappointing tourney, but it not for Eakin's lack of trying.
The Finals-bound Sea Dogs opted to rest a number of their players for this game; Stanislav Galiev played the full tilt. He had an assist on the Dogs' second goal and was not on ice for any of the five goals-against. The Ice move up to 1-2 for the tournament. The victory sets up a tie-breaker game for Thursday - Kootenay will play the loser of tonight's match between Owen Sound Attack (1-1) vs. Brett Flemming and the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors (1-1). |
